FFF Certified Fly Casting Instruction
for Fresh, Saltwater, and Kayak

Whether fishing a mountain trout stream, wading a bonefish flat, or casting to rolling tarpon, fly fishing can be at once both extremely challenging and incredibly rewarding. It is a sport of serenity and connectivity, where the playing field is as much in the mind as it is on the stream or ocean. And at the very heart of it all is the cast itself. If you are either a beginner or an experienced freshwater fly fisher about to foray into the salt, I strongly encourage you to seek out a credible instructor and take some time out to focus on fly casting off the water. Time spent improving your casting on dry land will greatly increase your ability to catch fish and add greatly to your enjoyment and appreciation of this sublime sport.

As an FFF Certified Fly Casting Instructor with almost 20 years of fly fishing experience and a decade of teaching fly casting, my goal as an instructor is to teach you the physics and mechanics of fly casting and how to analyze your cast so that you can continue to improve when our time together is over. I also specialize in teaching you how to assess different fishing situations and cast appropriately for the best presentation. I teach casting for fishing, and this is extremely important if expect to walk away from any fly casting instruction with a sense on how to apply what you have learned to actually dealing with the environmental factors involved with catching fish. Sadly, I have met very few instructors who understand the importance of this.

Fly fishing, in both fresh and salt, is an incredibly challenging, yet extremely fun and relaxing sport. If you have been interested in getting started or improving your existing skills, i can help take all the mystery and frustration out of what you are doing. I look forward to working with you!

Even for the trout angler, learning the fundamentals of distance and saltwater casting styles can be a great asset. In fishing situations, like the one on the right, where high winds and inaccessible shorelines offer only a few places to cast from, the ability to launch a lot of lfy line can get you to the fish you otherwise would not able to reach. However, unlike many "saltwater only" fly casting instructors, I can also teach you all the mends and casting variations for dry fly, nymph, drift boat, float tube, and other freshwater situations. So if you are a slatwater fly angler headed for a freshwater trout or salmon trip and need help with fly casting for these fishing situations, give me a call!

Learn to Fly Fish from a Kayak!!!

Catching saltwater species like this tarpon or the redfish on the left with a fly rod out of a kayak requires not only fly casting skills, but also a sound understanding of stripping, hooksetting, and good boat handling
